VELLERE, Lucie Lucie VELLERE (Brussels, 23rd December 1896 - Brussels, 12th October 1966)

At the age of six, Lucie VELLERE started studying solfeggio and piano with her father. Later she studied violin with Emile Chaumont, harmony and counterpoint with Paul Miry and composition with Joseph Jongen.

As a composer, she proves to possess a solid musical knowledge. Most of her refined and rather poetic works show impressionistic tendencies.

She received several awards for her vocal work. In 1957 “Air du Syrinx” for a cappella choir received the international prize of the “National Council of Women of the U.S.A.”.
