POLIART, Jean-Louis

POLIART, Jean-Louis Born in 1954, Jean-Louis POLIART completed traditional music studies in the piano and writing classes at the Royal Conservatory of Mons (Belgium), where he also studied orchestration and composition with P.-B. Michel and has been teaching written harmony since 1979.

In 1996 he obtained a post-graduate degree in electroacoustic composition in the class of Annette Vande Gorne at the Royal Conservatory of Mons. He has been a director of the Music Academy “La Chantrerie” in Soignies since 1986. There, in September 1994, he created an (computer-performed) electroacoustic composition course especially designed for children (an unprecedented initiative in the Belgian Academies of Music). He also created a chime lesson in his academy in October 2000.
His works comprise electroacoustic, instrumental, orchestral and dual music. The emotion deriving from the passing of time has played an increasingly important role in his music, leading to concerns about perception . For this reason, he devotes most of his time to the “art of the fixed sounds”. Meanwhile, Jean-Louis Poliart also composes for theatres and participates in various shows in Belgium.

He is also a member of several composers’ and electroacoustic associations and has been awarded various international awards.
