LONQUE, Georges

LONQUE, Georges Georges LONQUE was born on November 8, 1900 in Ghent and died on March 3, 1967 in Brussels. From a family of valued musicians, he won 1st prize for violin, harmony, counterpoint, fugue and composition and the Rome Prize in 1929 with the lyric poem Antigone. He was concertmaster solo at the Royal Theatre of Ghent, professor of harmony at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent and director of the Music Academy in Renaix.

As a composer, Georges Lonque was probably influenced by the French impressionists but, with maturity, his personality became increasingly evident in his compositions. His ballet “Aura”, a symphonic poem, was published by the Queen Elisabeth Foundation. Art-Sciences et Lettres de Paris presented him with the award of merit for his works published and played in France.
He devoted his life to music education but this choice was not detrimental to his artistic talent, as testified by the abundance and diversity of his works.
