LACHERT, Piotr

Piotr LACHERT is one of today’s foremost European post-modernist composers. Born in Poland in 1938 and educated in Warsaw, Paris, Hannover and Brussels, he has been living in Pescara, Italy since 1991.

Earning Master Degrees in piano and chamber music, Piotr Lachert was a prize winner at the First Paderewski piano competition in 1961. He also won awards at the 1969 Lodz Poetry contest, was the International Biography Center “Man of the Year” in England in 1992, and received the Brussels “Trophée Royal” for theatre music (1992), the Italian Cultural prize “Ghironda” (1995) and the Belgian Sabam “Médaille et Diplôme d’Honneur” (1999).

Mr. Lachert is a recognized authority in music education. He has taught piano since 1969 in Poland, Belgium (at the Brussels Conservatoire Royal and at his own “école de Piano Piotr Lachert”), and Italy. There he has been teaching at the Academia Musicale in Pescara since 1992. He is also the artistic director of Kamerton Artisti Associati, which he co-founded. He regularly gives master classes and seminars for piano teachers and students throughout Europe. In Italy alone more than 700 students have attended his courses. His “Méthode Créative” was presented at the International Congresses of ISME (International Society for Music Education) in Montreal and Sydney, and at the European Piano Teachers Association in Berlin, Antwerp, Rome and numerous other places.

In 1973 Mr. Lachert co-founded TEMV! (Théâtre Européen de Musique Vivante!) in Brussels which he directed for 20 years and with which he toured Europe, Iran and Korea. He has organized several contemporary music festivals and piano competitions for children and students. He has also juried numerous international competitions.

In 1993 Mr. Lachert created and hosted “Lezioni di Pianoforte a casa” (piano lessons at home), a twenty-two-part television series aired in Italy.

In 1982 he developed a computer-assisted composition system called “Letter Music”. Mr. Lachert’s compositions include: several musical theatre pieces; over 700 pedagogical piano music studies (his “Méthode Créative” boasts six printings); instrumental solo pieces including 20 sonates; chamber music- a piano trio, string quartets, Kauffolie for 36 pianos; orchestral music- concerti for violin, piano and for amplified clavichord; a ballet entitled “Cie-” and the opera “Aroke Tre.”

His music is performed throughout Europe, the U.S. and Japan, in countless festivals and contemporary music concerts.
